Land is a critical part of food sovereignty, perhaps the very basis of it. Some global organisations have been effectively raising awareness about the land grabbing that is happening more and more in Africa, in the name of public-private investment. But so far there hasn’t been a strong African voice on this.
This working group will help to articulate this African voice through the establishment of a continental platform on this theme. The platform will map cases of land grabbing in Africa so as to have a constantly emerging picture of what is happening.
It will also commission specific research as a basis for influencing policy processes at both continental and international levels. On going networking with other organisations will be a key part of this platform. The aim will also be to strengthen much needed activities at national levels.
