The Alliance for Food Sovereignty in Africa (AFSA) is inviting expressions of interest from qualified consultants or firms to design and deliver a five-day capacity-building training for African Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), including members of AFSA’s Climate Change Working Group. This training aims to strengthen CSOs’ knowledge and skills to effectively engage in UNFCCC processes, participate meaningfully in climate negotiations, and advocate for agroecology as a transformative solution to the climate crisis.

The training will take place from 1st to 5th September 2025 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on the sidelines of Africa Climate Week. It will cover essential topics including international climate governance, key negotiation streams (agriculture, adaptation, NAPs, GGA, climate finance including Loss and Damage), the Paris Agreement and NDCs, gender and climate policy, just transition in agriculture, national policy engagement, and evidence-based climate advocacy. The overall goal is to build a cohort of knowledgeable and confident African CSOs who can contribute to climate justice and food system transformation through sustained advocacy for agroecology.

AFSA seeks a competent individual consultant or a team with solid regional or continental experience in climate policy, training facilitation, and agroecology or sustainable agriculture advocacy. The selected consultant will be responsible for designing and conducting the training, preparing relevant materials and case studies, facilitating interactive sessions, conducting a pre-training assessment, and submitting a comprehensive report with recommendations and key outcomes.

Interested applicants must submit their Expression of Interest no later than 10 July 2025. The application should include a signed cover letter, a technical and financial proposal, the applicant’s profile and experience, signed CV(s), and a clear methodology for delivering the training.

Submissions must be sent via email to afsa@afsafrica.org with a copy to simon.bukenya@afsafrica.org, using the subject line: “Training for Climate Change and Agroecology.”
